Non GMO Shopping Guide Plus Resources

Non GMO ShoppingBuy Non-GMO

You can eliminate GMOs from your diet and combine your purchasing power with that of other health-conscious consumers.

$pend your food dollars on healthy non-GMO brands! Buying non-GMO not only impacts your own and your family’s health concerns, it also influences the buying decisions of food manufacturers, distributors, and retailers. Food manufacturers worldwide have switched to non-GM ingredients in response to consumers demanding they make a change or lose customers. See download below.

From the Institute for Responsible Technology:

TIPS FOR AVOIDING GMOs

Tip #1: Buy Organic

Certified organic products cannot intentionally include any GMO ingredients. Buy products labeled “100% organic,” “organic,” or “made with organic ingredients.” You can be doubly sure if the product also has a Non-GMO Project Verified Seal. Read more about organic standards…

Tip #2:

Look for Non-GMO Project Seals

Products that carry the Non-GMO Project Seal are independently verified to be in compliance with North America’s only third party standard for GMO avoidance, including testing of at-risk ingredients. The Non-GMO Project is a non-profit organization committed to providing consumers with clearly labeled and independently verified non-GMO choices. Look for dairy products labeled “No rBGH or rBST,” or “artificial hormone-free.”

Tip #3:  Avoid at-risk ingredients

If it’s not labeled organic or verified non-GMO: Avoid products made with ingredients that might be derived from GMOs (see list). The eight GM food crops are Corn, Soybeans, Canola, Cottonseed, Sugar Beets, Hawaiian Papaya (most) and a small amount of Zucchini and Yellow Squash.

From Kellogg’s: Organic Consumers Association and allies warned Kellogg’s, if they used sugar from genetically engineered sugar beets in their foods, they would face a consumer boycott. Kellogg’s responded, claiming that, even though they don’t use genetically engineered ingredients in Europe, in the U.S., “consumer concerns about the usage of biotech ingredients in food production are low.”

From Crystal Sugar: David Berg, President of Crystal Sugar, the nation’s largest sugar beet processor, told the New York Times he thought customer acceptance of GE sugar was “a big nonevent.”

Maraline’s Note:  “Cow dairy is extremely high in lactic acid. Goat dairy has much less lactic acid if you’ve gotaa have your cheese, and almond milk, coconut milk, rice milk, etc are great milk alternatives:)

Coconut Milk IceCream

Dairy Products may be from cows injected with GM bovine growth hormone. Look for labels stating No rBGH, rBST, or artificial hormones. OR Buy Organic Milk from reputable grass fed farm (some lower cost organic milk is from grain fed cows, depleting the essential vitamins and minerals).

Dangers of GMO Sugar Beets

Sugar If a non-organic product made in North American lists “sugar” as an ingredient (and NOT pure cane sugar), then it is almost certainly a combination of sugar from both sugar cane and GM sugar beets.

Why do 1 in 2 Americans have a chronic condition and take several pharmaceutical medications?

Our body requires certain levels of nutrition and hydration, and if not provided, we will adapt to the conditions, but in doing so, nutritional deficits will be the consequence. While we are not directly responsible for the degradation of the food, water, and air, we are responsible to ourselves and our families to eat as our body is designed, for nutrition and hydration.

Q. What does our body require?

A. Foundational levels of nutrition, which means your body requires (not wants, not would like, but requires) certain vitamins and minerals, and certain levels of cellular hydration (or different levels of water in your 20 different cell sizes).

We are designed to receive nutrition through whole food and water both – today that’s almost impossible without whole food supplementation and clean drinking water at home.

This article is based around Americans ingesting far too many pharmaceuticals. Below you will watch a video of a pharmaceutical representative describing in detail exactly why so many of us are taking so many pharmaceuticals, and exactly how the pharmaceutical industry works. Did you know that pharmaceuticals carry the highest profit margin of any business in the country.

And did you know our body is a miracle that can work miracles once we become empowered, once we learn, and once we know which direction to point ourselves. “Point yourself in the right direction and YOU will follow” means your body inherently knows what is good for it and what is bad for it, and for the most part so do our brains, however our brain doesn’t have taste buds. Today we have to be careful to derive our nutrition from whole foods and our hydration from clean drinking water. Look at the reality of this, see what you think, and determine if you are willing to make small changes to improve the quality of your health.

Straight from Wikpedia:

Nearly one in two Americans (133 million) has a chronic medical condition of one kind or another,[1] and chronic illnesses cause about 70% of deaths in the United States and take up about 75% of the costs each year.[2] However, most of these people are not actually disabled, as their medical conditions do not impair normal activities. According to this report, the most common chronic conditions are high blood pressure, arthritis, respiratory diseases like emphysema, and high cholesterol. (more…)

“What’s Wrong With Our Food?” Plenty, says 11 year old Birke Baehr, TedxTalks

TEDxTalks Features 11-year-old Birke Baehr “What’s Wrong With Our Food”, Contributed by Raw Food Chef, Nandi Moore

He’s only been on the planet 11 years, and this child knows our food system is broken. He demonstrates that our children will not be fooled. This is a brilliant expose through a child’s eyes, so much so, I think many adults will open their eyes and “see reality” through Birke’s thought-provoking research and presentation.

Growing bigger, faster, and with a longer shelf life, has become what our food industry coins “successful and profitable”. Our degraded food and broken food system, is the elephant in the room that we all need to start talking about, moreover, do something about!

Please SHARE the information, and SHOP, PREPARE, AND EAT with food integrity in mind.
You’ll need to ignore the audience laugh track, it sometimes occurs at inappropriate moments, however, does not in the least, dilute the impact of this message. Maraline

Processed foods, Excitotoxins, GMO, Chemicals, Pesticides, inhumane treatment, inferior food, antibiotics, hormones, grow bigger and faster mentality of livestock, poultry, and fish, and overall negligence about human health in general, is FLAT OUT WRONG!

The impact of this message should be clear to us, there is so much wrong with our food system and it happened silently, decision making obviously slanted in the best financial interest of business, negligent of human health, negligent of being good stewards of our animals, land, and water. Mostly, we didn’t know it was happening and we cannot ignore the ramifications any longer, because to do so, effectively destroys any chance of good health for our children.

Let’s not start  impact by bringing back “organic”, that which was commonplace before WWII. We owe it to ourselves, our children, our parents, and the animals, to hold these companies accountable.

Reality check:  20 years ago how many children did you know who suffered from allergies, asthma, sleep issues, weight issues, diabetes, and worse? Today, the healthy, slim, and vibrant person is the exception instead of the rule.

Please, let’s “listen” to the children. It begins with facing some raw truths, education, and looking beyond the pretty packaging.

Who owns which “organic” company, surprise!

Did you know M&Ms owns Seeds of Change, or that General Mills owns Cascadian Farms, Heinz owns 19.5% of Hain Celestial who owns organic company’s including Earth’s Best, Arrowhead Mills, Spectrum. Kraft owns Boca and Back to Nature, and Kellogg’s owns Morning Star, Kashi (yes Kashi), and Bear Naked!

Cornucopia Institute reveals who owns what on graphics which are easily and quicly understood. So many more big corporations own organic company’s than I would have imagined, plus you can also see a chart which reveals which organic companies have remained independent.

Are Monsanto chemicals now in your ice cream?

John Robbins wrote the book “The Food Revolution”, which I found to be an incredibly authentic and well researched reference book. His dad was co-founder and co-owner of Baskin-Robbins. A few days ago, he revealed which ice cream is “chemical free” and which still have “Monsanto Chemicals”. Now keep in mind just because the label says “natural ingredients”, you have to remember that ice cream is dairy, dairy comes from cows, and most of the cows are injected with hormones and antibiotics, and the food they eat is laced with chemicals and pesticides, so by “absorption” your ice cream could be unhealthy. And this doesn’t even touch on all the ice cream out there with ingredients you cannot pronounce!

Ice cream has always been my Achilles heel, no matter when, winter, spring, summer, and fall. I have learned to make my own with coconut milk (you’ll find it under recipes), but there is still something that zings with a little excitement when I eat ice cream.

Is Your Favorite Ice Cream Made With Monsanto’s Artificial Hormones?

Author, John Robbins

Monsanto has been in the news this week, with a U.S. District Court Judge ruling that the USDA has to at least go through the motions of regulating the company’s genetically engineered sugar beets. Monsanto, you may know, is not likely to win any contests for the most popular company. In fact, it has been called the most hated corporation in the world, which is saying something, given the competition from the likes of BP, Halliburton and Goldman Sachs.

This has gotten me thinking about, of all things, ice cream, and of how Monsanto’s clammy paws can be found in some of the most widely selling ice cream brands in the country. These brands could break free from Monsanto’s clutches. So far they haven’t, but maybe this is about to change.

Ben & Jerry’s gets all their milk from dairies that have pledged not to inject their cows with genetically engineered bovine growth hormone (rBGH). Why, then, can’t Haagen Dazs, Breyers and Baskin-Robbins do the same?

Starbucks now guarantees that all their milk, cream and other dairy products are rBGH-free. So do Yoplait and Dannon yogurts, Tillamook cheese, Chipotle restaurants, and many others. But ice cream giants Haagen Dazs, Breyers and Baskin-Robbins continue to use milk from cows injected with rBGH, a hormone that’s been banned in Canada, New Zealand, Japan, Australia and all 27 nations of the European Union. As if to add insult to injury, Haagen Dazs and Breyers have the audacity to tell us, right on the label, that their ice cream is ” All Natural.” (more…)

Learn How To Purchase FOOD, brought to you by Robert Kenner, Author of ‘Fast Food Nation’

Robert’s work is to be admired, if just for his tenacity in completing his mission of bringing this information to each and every one of us.  Moreover because this trailer, this movie,  is inspirational in it’s openness about our need to learn more and more about where our food comes from. Most critical to the health of this nation is our food chain, our food choices – we can all become empowered about this, truly!

One question to the Director, and Author of Fast Food Nation:

Q&A with Producer/Director Robert Kenner, Co-Producer/Food Expert Eric Schlosser, Food Expert Michael Pollan and Producer Elise Pearlstein

How many years did it take to do this film and what were the challenges?
Kenner: From when Eric and I began talking, about 6 or 7 years.  The film itself about 2 ½ years.  It has taken a lot longer than we expected because we were denied access to so many places.
